M.V. Sanctuary’s art projects authentically emerged from Z.M. Nie’s expressions in engaged mysticism. Art, especially new media art, can be powerfully imaginative healing rituals. Over the years, this vision has led to many projects, exhibitions, awards, and collaborations all over the world.
M.V. Sanctuary’s multimedia installations, led by Rebecca D. Nie, integrate algorithm-empowered visual art, projection mapping, contemporary music, classical sacred expressions, and heritage of holistic wellness. These colorful and rhythmic all-sensory new media art spaces are avant-garde healing-wisdom rituals. They artistically initiate open-ended reflections and dialogues in multi-faith and multiculturalism with projection-mapped optical effects. M.V. Sanctuary’s video art intentionally combines cutting-edge music, algorithm-driven graphics, and hand-created visual art. They compassionately provide the tools for the audience to connect with their subconsciousness and intuition, beckoning them to tap into their innate potential for healing and peace.
The inspiration for these new media art rituals comes from the lead artist’s inner work and diverse attainment. With a graduate degree from Stanford University and two bachelor’s degrees in optics and mathematics, Nie is a Zen Master and Stanford University’s Buddhist Chaplain. Her heritage of enlightenment traces 80 generations back to the historical Buddha. Art, sacred heritage, and algorithms are all integrated into M.V. Sanctuary’s installations to empower the audience to imagine a future uplifted by healing wisdom and work towards it with their human strength.
Rebecca Nie (She/They) is an award-winning new media artist, published author, and spiritual advisor who lives and works in Northern California. As a contemporary heir of one of the world’s oldest living mystic orders, she creates to artistically aid the audience in connecting with their subconsciousness and intuition. By doing so, Nie hopes to invite the audience to directly experience the sublime and tap into the profound healing wisdom innate to every human being. The inspiration for Nie’s works comes from her inner work, global adventures, and attainment in diverse disciplines. Nie spent over a decade rigorously studying classical representational artmaking and attended college-level classes at art institutions throughout her formal education. In parallel, Nie intentionally expanded her horizon and added depth to her investigation of lights, colors, and forms by studying them from scientific perspectives. She attended the University of Toronto and graduated as a high-distinction scholar with dual degrees specializing in quantum optics and mathematics. Nie subsequently graduated from Stanford University with a graduate degree in applied physics. Another dimension of depth in Nie’s art comes from her training and dedication to engaged mysticism. Nie’s art and introspections are an integrated whole: she lets go of her limited self to allow the lines, colors, and textures to come forth from a mystical center in her being and knows that it is the source through which we are all connected. When not creating art, Nie can be found developing algorithms that interlace mathematical and artistic beauty, translating ancient texts, or practicing Tangmi yoga, which Nie learned by the Ganges River and in China’s sacred mountains.
